US Gov Sends Tigers to Baghdad Zoo!

Stupidity is Contagious

That is a correct assessment of the Boosh Administration and that cavalier attitude toward common sense has run rampant in the past 8 years. Example: US NAVY testing midrange frequency sonar, the sound is like the squealing feedback of a PA system at a concert, what musicians call ‘bad feedback,’ it is sort of like having your brains melted through your ears–it is hell for ocean dwelling mammals. Testing was halted for some time and last I heard it was resumed. Total disregard for other living creatures. A concept not difficult to understand when we’ve already had one illegal invasion of a country on false pretense and have been pushing toward another illegal invasion of Iran for the past 4 years. (Iran before Boosh is gone, anyone taking bets? Odds are we’ll try for Tehran by X-mas, it’ll be so…Crusader-y and the perfect cap to 8 years of utter disappointment.)

Here is another example of the inner workings of the idiocracy! They make a good argument against it in regards to the animals but I’m semi-appalled at the arrogance of this ‘goodwill’ that stinks of PR ops for the white house. The uniformed will pat themselves on the backs and say ‘Yay for us!’ But the Iraqi shopkeeper who hasn’t been able to get out of the red since the invasion will continue to wring his hands in frustration, ‘what the fuck do we need tigers for?’

(Note: I was informed of this through PETA2’s newsletter)

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has issued a permit for Conservators’ Center, Inc.—a roadside zoo in Mebane, North Carolina—to send two tigers to the Baghdad Zoo in Iraq.

When the war in Iraq began, the media reported that hundreds of animals at the Baghdad Zoo were killed, stolen, eaten, stuffed, sold, or let loose by looters, or they escaped when mortar blasts damaged their cages. As newspapers and television continue to remind us, the military conflict in Iraq is far from over and incidents of extreme violence are still commonplace. Additionally, there is no evidence that Iraq has acceptable standards for captive-animal care.

The proposal to send the tigers to the Baghdad Zoo is being portrayed as a gesture of goodwill toward the citizens of Iraq, but it is cruel and irresponsible to put tigers in harm’s way in a country where most of the people don’t even have access to basic necessities.

What You Can Do
Use the form below to ask the USFWS to reevaluate its decision regarding PRT-181813 and deny the Conservators’ Center permit application. Remind the USFWS that it has already been tragically demonstrated that the animals at the Baghdad Zoo are not protected from the country’s military conflict. Tell officials that the export of tigers to Iraq would violate the spirit of CITES, an international wildlife trade agreement.

  1. I’m a solider in Iraq.

    The Tigers arrived today.

Kim Basinger doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

    Check the violence levels.

Why don’t you come to Iraq and protest if you’re so interested in the safety of these animals.

Oh, cause you think it’s too dangerous over here for you. If you really cared about the tiger. You’d come.

  2. you missed the point, which is what happens sometimes in the anonymity of commenting on the internet. so as an actual soldier you’ve of course had first hand experience with the realities of war, something i haven’t witnessed, i commend you and appreciate your service. here is my retort.

    1. I don’t give a shit about the tigers, they are only a distraction orchestrated by the US Gov and incidentally exploited by PETA and Kim Basinger to further a political agenda.
    2. Asking me to come to iraq to protest is stupid. What good would that do? Iraqi’s don’t give a shit about tigers or the zoo or kim basinger or PETA. I assume they care about providing for their family, soccer and not getting blown up — three things that are pretty fucking high on their list of priorities.
    3. the violence levels as dictated by the US Gov and fed to the corporate news agencies?
    4. Good luck getting transferred to Afghanistan or invading Iran!

    wake up.

  3. Oh yeah. Iraqis only care about 3 things. They country is full of satilite dishes and everyone here has a cell phone.

America is distracted by Tigers in Iraq?
After we got back from the Zoo I looked for articles on the event.

All I found was “Hippies Complain about shit they don’t fully understand.”

How do you know what Iraqis care about.
They all have satalite dishes, cell phones, and they love going to the Zoo.

Yes, the Iraq zoo attracts Iraqis. So maybe they do care.
Maybe they want a distraction after all their countries been though.
    ….

Bush had nothing to do with Tigers in Iraq

    NOTHING!

He didn’t organize it. Not at the planning stage. Not at the logistical level. Not at any level.

YOU. Put your paranoia in perspective and wake up.

If you want to chase a thinly veiled conspiracy, look at the pre surge troop strength. Then look at the post surge troop strength.

Take a look at those numbers. Look at when the coming election is. And guess when the whopping difference will be subtracted.

“3. the violence levels as dictated by the US Gov and fed to the corporate news agencies? ”
… right. I’m sure they only report deaths that they want to as well.

No. It’s the corporations out to get you. How trite.

  4. What is wrong with tigers in the baghdad zoo? I’m sure that the USDA and US Army Vets wouldnt just send the tigers into a war zone. I agree with the soldiers statements and think that we should all look to a brighter furture for Iraq. We all know that the media reports all the negative information from Iraq. We know nothing……. SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS! Lets send miss Basinger to Iraq to entertain the troops….now thats a idea….

  5. i wont belabor the point any further because it doesn’t seem like i can articulate it clearly enough.

iraqis own cell phones and satellite dishes because they are easily obtainable and cheap forms of staying connected (and can also be used to detonate ied), what do either of those consumables have to do with what iraqis want?

how do you know what iraqis want? do ask them as your walking by in your body armor with your rifle?

iraqis want everything americans, mexicans and chinese want–security without tyranny. a future without civil war or foreign occupation. a unified country.

SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS–as the homeless veteran population rises and cases of PTSD plague returning troops, it’ll be interesting to see what form SUPPORT comes in besides all caps on some insignificant blog about tigers. The magic words in all caps will take on different meaning, it won’t be some thing chanted at ‘hippies’ or ‘liberals’ you’ll actually have to swallow something that may not taste so good–pride.

    (Good)

(They want cheap entertainment, and they love western culture. They are just like the rest of us in America)

how do you know what iraqis want? do ask them as your walking by in your body armor with your rifle?

(Sort of. They approach me. Most of the time they want a bottle of cold water. The kids want ‘choc-o-la-ta’. Sometimes they want the zoo to have more animals.)

iraqis want everything americans, mexicans and chinese want–security without tyranny. a future without civil war or foreign occupation. a unified country.
(Tell it to Korea and Germany)

(And you’ll swallow humble pie when the terror alert levels at Red son)

  7. yeah. stupidity IS contagious.
here you go assholes. since money seems to talk and bullshit walks around with misplaced patriotism, this is a little bit of perspective from a capitalistic standpoint.

  8. William James wrote the words below in 1910. We’re all fucked. get used to it. Your price tag equivalency test is well founded however you’re getting stuck on semantics, instead of ‘freedom’ insert ‘national interest’ or ‘secured and controlled resource supply,’ and you’d actually make a relevant point. Ra ra ra! america fuck yeah!

“Modern war is so expensive that we feel trade to be a better avenue to plunder; but modern man inherits all the innate pugnacity and all the love of glory of his ancestors. Showing war’s irrationality and horror is of no effect upon him. The horrors make the fascination. War is the strong life; it is life in extremis; war-taxes are the only ones men never hesitate to pay, as the budgets of all nations show us.

    And furthermore:

History is a bath of blood. The Iliad is one long recital of how Diomedes and Ajax, Sarpedon and Hector killed. No detail of the wounds they made is spared us, and the Greek mind fed upon the story. Greek hstory is a panorama of jingoism and imperialism […].

And here’s a quote to shove up your hypocritical ass, Thucydides – “The powerful exact what they can while the weak endure what they must.”

  9. “war-taxes are the only ones men never hesitate to pay, as the budgets of all nations show us.”

Thank you for contributing to the war effort taxpayer!

I hope you can think of Iraqs freedom as money well speant.

Also thank you for paying my salary.

… How do you think the hippie population in Georgia is doing?
